Jacquie Egan
Microbiologist
Jacquie has a BSc in microbiology from Surrey University.
Over the last 25 years she has developed extensive experience
in marine phytoplankton identification and ecology, particularly
with regard to algal blooms. This has included long-term
contracts for the Department of the Environment to collect,
collate and report on algal bloom incidents along the North
Wales and North West England coasts and research into the
ecology and physiology of Phaeocystis pouchetii, a bloom
forming alga. Since 1998 Jacquie has been responsible for
the identification and enumeration of large numbers of marine
phytoplankton samples for a number of clients including
the NorthWest, and Southern Regions of the UK Environment
Agency. She has successfully participated in the BEQUALM
Phytoplankton Enumeration and Identification Proficiency
Test.
